Already last Sunday I got a ticket towards better weather. With bicycle and abroad it`s a disaster with Deutsche Bahn really. Bike and Deutsche Bahn, in general is not a good option, in long-distance traffic, but across national borders..... online booking, not possible possible at all, so sales counter. I "the muppet" stood there for 45 minutes at the counter, one route via Switzerland, 1 x change, 1 h transfer time, 4 pm arrival, is of course, also cia sales counter not bookable, apparently because of the Swiss, apparently (Swisstrain and bike = 100%; just saying). The other route via Austria (yes I start in Italy, surprise) on the selcted day, no bike ticket available, but the day after, 2 x change, once only 30 minutes transfer time, arrival in the evening, at 8 o'clock. But okay super saving price (of course without exchange possibility). Now, today after I had an important appointment (job interview) in 60 km distance and wanted to go there with Deutsche Bahn (1x change) and since this had not worked, really not, I have again modified the planned trip to italy (30 minutes for 1 x change togehter with delay and Deutsche Bahn + bike? Come on, hilarious, insane!). Unfortunately, the super saving price (cancellation excluded(!)) can not be rebooked.

So I bought an additional ticked (also super saving price, but with cancellation option) from home to Munich, half an hour earlier, but without change and 2 h stay in Munich before the other train goes to Italy. And after the experience today, it may be better to have 2 tickets to Munich. Bike and Deutsche Bahn this is not working, yet! Neither in the booking system, nor in practice, but timetable and reality differ anyway (with DB). No matter, everything else then next week. I have already mentioned it? Job interview! Indeed! At the moment is really the crazy from 10 applications, 5 invitations to interviews, this the madness. There are interesting offers and some which are not

interesting at all. The video calls /interviews are nice, informative and offer a certain learning effect. Today the job had real potential! Normally, I like to make a secret of where I apply and to whom, I also always find follow-up questions very irritating and would prefer not to answer them. In academics I have already experienced the worst, really. Now I have to get a little bit fuzzier again, for example a former "employer" of mine, shot down his own employee's habilitation grant (via phone call with the contracting authority). Why? To prevent the employee from becoming independent. And why do I know that? Because I was asked to find out where the grant was applied for. Which I actually did not do (but

probably someone else did), but this opened my eyes. Unbelievable! What a toxic environment this always is. A great deal of energy is dissipated in such trench warfare. Frequently! It is not the first time that I was allowed to experience something like that. Treating staff positiv, helping, promote, lifting people up, tsss ridiculous, very very very often only "I" and "ride a horse until it is dead". Now it should be understandable why I sometimes do not want to respond to direkt questions or react only reluctantly. Well, today it's something else. The position is great and yes I would probably take it. A permanent position at a research nuclear reactor, chemistry well let's say "samplegrow" with radioactive materials (actinides too), this is as close as I will get to elements above Z = 101. Are there any hooks? Sure! a) I don't have a commitment yet, b) it's a bit below my pay grade, c) it's rather contract sample preparation ("samplegrow") not independent research d) commuting with the Deutsche Bahn is exhausting, e) I'm not sure if a Porsche wouldn't be driven exclusively in the 30 zone, f) end of the line?, g) do I have other plans in life? I don't have an acceptance yet, it takes longer in the university environment in Germany (staff council, works council, etc.), so we'll continue to prepare for cycling tour and see how my world of thoughts develops, maybe I'll have some competition, who knows? Should a promise (in a few months) come, we see further, I can end the tour at any time. Well, that's why I'm going to be quite open about the interview today. Application at Triga research reactor Mainz, (very nice man), nuclear chemistry, also the team, very nice, super first impression, I'm sure 3-4 years I would be able to spend there. But forever? So 20 years plus? But maybe a former "employer" is reading along and kindly spits in my soup and takes this decision away from me via a phone call. No shit, that's not paranoia. But to congratulate to the wedding one could not, not even via Whatsapp, there you know like how the priorities of these "friends" are sorted. If someone masters the field of work after 3 years more extensively than someone who has a doctorate and/or habilitation in the field and has done more than 15 years of research in it? Huh? That makes you feel stupid, doesn't it? Envy is boiling up, isn't it? Pure hatred! Ha, now someone slams his mouse on the table and throws the keyboard across the room.
